Matías Edery

(42) is one of the four prosecutors involved in the trial started this Friday against Los Monos in the Rosario courts for a series of shooting attacks against judicial targets, in which the head of the drug gang, Ariel Máximo "Guille" Cantero (33), launched that he was dedicated to "hiring hitmen to shoot judges."

This Saturday morning, Edery referred to Cantero's statements and also gave a crude account of how the officials who must investigate and judge criminal participation live.

"You try to live as calmly as possible. I have had custody for two years and one is adjusting. It is not the most comfortable situation but there are times like this where custody told me to be stricter. For example,

yesterday I had to go down to get a pizza with a bulletproof vest.

It is not a situation that I like but I understand that there are times when you have to pay more attention. It is not the most beautiful thing but you get used to it ", revealed the prosecutor in dialogue with the local

radio

station

Radio 2.

When asked about the reaction of his neighbors, he explained that he does not have "much contact" and they did not raise a feeling of fear because of the situation he faces: "I have a mobile phone at the door of my house and that way it gives them more peace of mind ".

This Friday, "Guille" Cantero ironically assured that his profession is to hire "hitmen to shoot judges", when the court that is trying him for a series of bullet attacks against buildings and homes of judicial officials asked him about his job at the beginning of the oral debate that he faces along with six other defendants in the city of Rosario.

"Contract hitmen to shoot judges" was the first sentence Cantero was heard to say, defiantly, when asked about his filiation details and his job a few minutes before the start of the trial. The leader of the gang, like the rest of the defendants, participated in a virtual way through the Zoom platform, since he is detained in the Buenos Aires prison of Marcos Paz, of the Federal Penitentiary Service.

In this regard, Edery said that the statement from the head of Los Monos caught them "off guard" because the trial "is just beginning," but clarified that it did not surprise them: "He

always had that attitude

in many hearings, mocking the system. A role that is one of the fundamental people of organized crime and wants to generate this.

It is his show

. "

He recalled that "in this trial when we imputed him, although he did not make a challenge or threat as in this case, they asked him what his name was and he replied 'Juan Carlos Pez'".

He added: "This is another question. He is telling a judge.

He knows that he is intimidating the person who wants to judge him

. But we try to confront him calmly. We do our job."

Regarding the trial itself, he considered that "it is a challenge of the institutional system of the province because trying to get the judges to modify their resolutions to the shots is the same thing that he ends up doing yesterday."

On the eve of the retrial, the Rosario Criminal Justice Center was shot at Wednesday night in what was the fourth attack on the building in just over three years. In this regard, the prosecutor stated: "

It is very frustrating to continue condemning people who are already convicted

of acts that are committed outside. Having cell phones from prison is an important factor, but it is not the only one. We must try to deactivate the fluid contact with people outside. "

In addition, he asked for a more rigorous sentence for Cantero: "It cannot be that a person who continues to be sentenced continues to have visitors. Cell phones, notes are passed on in those contacts ... You have to create a truly prison system in which it is fulfilled that if a person continues to commit crimes, they lose visits, contact and end up in a more secluded place and progressively lose rights ".

In fact, on Monday, when the trial resumes, in which the prosecution requested 24 years in prison for Cantero, the leader of Los Monos will not be present.

He advised that it is visiting day and prefers to attend to his personal affairs.
