Because of going back to school? A spike in morbidity in the ultra-Orthodox cities Israel today

2021-08-21T20:36:45.194Z

The ultra-Orthodox cities have been painted red, and the percentage of those verified in them is the highest.

There has been a significant jump in the morbidity of the corona virus in the ultra-Orthodox sector in recent days, after at the beginning of the fourth wave it seemed that it was missing out on the residents of the ultra-Orthodox cities.

At the moment, all the ultra-Orthodox cities are red, except for the other orange elite.

Some of the cities are at the top of the list of verified in the country.

The rate of positive tests in the ultra-Orthodox sector is relatively high in all cities.

In the locality of ridges, the rate of positive tests is 21%, higher than any other city in the country.

In Elad, the rate of positive tests is 15%, in Kiryat Ya'arim 14% and in Bnei Brak and Kfar Chabad 13%.

Despite the fact that morbidity in the ultra-Orthodox street is high, studies in the sector are currently continuing as usual.

In recent days, the Ministry of Health has been trying to start the system of serological tests, but at the moment it seems to be running lazily.

As of this weekend, about 40,000 students were examined out of a total of about 250,000 in the ultra-Orthodox education system.

At present the data are disappointing, as relatively low numbers of children under the age of 12 have contracted the virus, only 1,289 out of tens of thousands.

This could indicate that there was no herd vaccination at all following the previous waves, and alternatively - that the antibodies disappeared.

In recent days, angry voices have been heard in the ultra-Orthodox public about the government's conduct in their case.

The fact that immunization in educational institutions began late, along with the lack of outlines for holidays and flights to Uman, and the attempt to test thousands of ultra-Orthodox students - provoked much anger.

"We are experimental puppets"

Among other things, residents of ultra-Orthodox cities are angry that they have to wait a long time in queues for serological tests.

"We are used as experimental dolls before the start of the school year in the general public," said a Bnei Brak resident.

Along with the criticism, there is still a relatively low response to wearing masks in synagogues.

In the last few days, the Haredi information headquarters of the Ministry of Health launched a campaign, in an attempt to persuade those who came to wear a mask during their stay in the synagogues.

"We have convincing explanations, claims, disappointments, criticism, and perhaps, to admit the truth - also fatigue. But as those who are commanded to save lives, to fight for every breath and breath, we have no permission to stop trying," read ads distributed in ultra-Orthodox concentrations.

Meanwhile, in light of the high morbidity, some ultra-Orthodox cities are trying to encourage immunization. The municipality of Bnei Brak announced the establishment of a municipal emergency center for the treatment of corona, as they did in previous waves, and also launched a vaccination campaign that took place on Thursday night, in which every vaccinated person was promised a cholent dose.

"We are not waiting, there is a real risk to the life of the Torah before the terrible days, and especially maintaining the health of our loved ones. I call on the Bnei Brak public to go out as before and get vaccinated," said Mayor Rabbi Avraham Rubinstein.
