Head of the Political-Military Department of the Russian Defense Ministry, General Andrei Kartapolov, announced that Syria's accession to the Collective Security Treaty Organization is possible if it is beneficial to it and the member states of this organization.
The Russian general said in an interview with Echo of Moscow radio: “The organization’s charter is not a static doctrine, and it must match the emerging situation directly,” explaining that he does not rule out the possibility of Syria joining it if the common benefit is achieved.
It is noteworthy that the Collective Security Treaty Organization was established on October 7, 2002 on the basis of the Collective Security Treaty signed on May 17, 1992. Its members currently include Russia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Armenia, Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan.
