He asks why people tick the way they tick.

Münsing - “Why do I want to be someone else who I am not?” Nine protagonists take a seat on a small stool in the middle of nature and question themselves and their lives in front of the camera - openly, honestly and undisguised.

At the “Five Lakes Film Festival” in Starnberg and Gauting, the new documentary “... like yourself?” By Susanne Petz and Ralph Gladitz will be shown for the first time, a film about the revolutionary power of love and self-love.

“I want to know why people tick and how they tick,” explains Susanne Petz in a conversation in her work space in the forest house near Weidenkam Castle.

As a freelance journalist, the native Westphalian, who has lived in Münsing since 2008, has always dealt with people and a variety of topics.

She studied politics in Munich and worked as an editor at B5 Aktuell.

She produced films for the women's magazine Mona Lisa on ZDF, wrote for print media from taz to Cosmopolitan and hosted the radio station Jazz-Welle.

As a journalist, she listened.

Today she delves deeper into the subject of human sensitivities.

The 60-year-old now works as a business coach.

“It's exciting what can happen when you talk openly about feelings,” she explains.

People tell their life story

In the documentary film "... like yourself?", The nine protagonists aged between 28 and 88 initially rate their self-esteem on a scale from one to ten. Then they tell about their life. "Sometimes I feel so desperate about myself," says the guy in the trailer with the denim jacket and long gray hair. His gaze pauses briefly and becomes thoughtful. Then he tells almost succinctly that he got stuck in the birth canal. "They took me with the pliers," he says and laughs.

Horst is 88 years old and was a gardener at Weidenkam Castle.

It was only very late that he found out that his father was not his own.

Georg, the carpenter from Münsing, grew up down-to-earth on a farm, Johannes in a blended family.

And Laura lost her parents as a child.

It is the life stories that shaped these people that they tell in the film.

The new documentary by Susanne Petz and Ralph Gladitz is a dialogue between self-assessment and external perception, between restraint and the courage to change, with fade-ins of beautiful nature shots from the Oberland.

For the viewer it is a reflection on himself.
