After a long dry spell, a folk festival is scheduled to start again in Penzberg in two weeks.

Festwirt Christian Fahrenschon is confident that it will work.

The district office has approved the Penzberger Wiesn, but with reservations.

Penzberg - Two years ago, the people of Penzberg celebrated their folk festival for the last time.

That was in the pre-Corona period.

In 2020 it was canceled due to the pandemic.

Not even a mini version came about.

Now the dry spell is about to end.

From Friday to Sunday, September 3rd to 12th, the folk festival is to take place on the Penzberger Berghalde, a little later than in previous years.

Festwirt Christian Fahrenschon is confident that it will work.

“It will take place in any case, you just have to look under what conditions.” This Friday he already had the construction of the beer garden roofing started.

In any case, he has the permit for the folk festival.

District Office has issued an exemption for the festival

The district office in Weilheim confirms this on request. With the decision of August 13th, an exemption was granted according to the Bavarian Infection Protection Measures Ordinance, but with a reservation of revocation. According to the district office, the permit stipulates a maximum number of visitors: 800 visitors for the beer garden and 500 for the amusement park. When asked, it was also stated that from a seven-day incidence of 35 on three consecutive days - the district of Weilheim-Schongau has currently broken this bar - the 3G rule will apply from the day after next. Then "only those who have been tested, vaccinated and recovered are allowed as visitors". If the incidence is more than 50, nothing changes. From 100 on three consecutive days, however, “the approval expires on the day after next”.In other words: The folk festival would then have to be canceled. According to the District Office, the approval would only come into force again if the seven-day incidence was below 100 for five consecutive days.

Big uncertainty factor for the landlord Fahrenschon

For Festwirt Fahrenschon, this is all a major factor of uncertainty. You have to see how the incidences and the number of copies will be in two weeks. “We will then have to react at short notice,” he says. A fact that affects all restaurateurs. That is important to him anyway: to be treated as a festival host on an equal footing with gastronomy. Fahrenschon explains that he would not accept being in a worse position. This also means: As everywhere in the catering trade, registration via app or handwritten applies. An FFP2 mask is required on the way to the square. Fahrensch already organized five public festivals this year, each with a hygiene concept: in Großkarolinenfeld, Bad Aibling, Vaterstetten, Unterföhring and Murnau. “We had no incidents,” he says. The sixth festival started on Friday: the “forest summer” in Geretsried.

Plans: Covered beer garden and an amusement park

As in Geretsried, he is planning a beer garden for Penzberg, two-thirds of which will be roofed - a tent without external walls, so to speak.

The music should play in the background for entertainment.

In addition, Fahrenschon has planned an amusement park with rides: with bumper cars, chain carousels and children's carousels.

There will also be a play booth, a shooting gallery and three stands with almonds, chocolate fruits and crepe.

The city of Penzberg granted its place almost two months ago. As reported, the city council agreed in its June meeting with a smaller version of the folk festival. At that time, representatives of the city administration watched the festival in Vaterstetten. "We liked it a lot," said town hall spokesman Thomas Sendl. At the end of July, at Fahrenschon's request, the city council reduced the fee for the festival square again. According to him, no further approval is required from the city.
