New York Governor Andrew Cuomo declared a state of emergency as Hurricane Henry approached.
Reuters quoted the governor's media office as saying today that the declaration of a state of emergency includes a number of counties, including New York City, where authorities fear heavy rain, winds and power outages.
Cuomo also asked US President Joe Biden to declare a state of emergency that would allow the Federal Emergency Management Agency to take emergency measures, including direct federal assistance to New Yorkers after Hurricane Henry passed.
The hurricane is expected to make landfall in New York on Sunday afternoon.
