Tai Po Centre has always been the central point of the district, and it is also a confluence of many bus routes. The road outside the area was originally scheduled to be resurfaced today (21st). The unexpected road closure soon saw serious traffic congestion. Many neighbours complained.

Some district councillors said that due to the large number of complaints received by the engineering department, they could only decide to cancel the project and resume driving in the afternoon; however, some residents believed that the road was in serious disrepair and that "long pain is not as good as short pain". It is better to complete the project as soon as possible.

Resident: a few minutes

There was a serious traffic congestion in the center of Tai Po this morning. Some neighbours said that they had "cocked the bus for a few minutes", and even pointed out that taxis were all "fleeing" and leaving Tai Po, "Don’t dare to do business in Tai Po." The neighbourhood complained.

Tai Po District Councillor Liu Yongwei pointed out that the road resurfacing project at the junction of On Tsz Road and On Cheung Road was originally scheduled to be carried out at the beginning of this month, but it was postponed for two weeks due to rain. It was not confirmed until a few days ago that the road will be closed for construction. It takes about 30 hours and spans day and night, so it can't be done only in the evening, early morning, etc.

Liu pointed out that he had discussed route changes with the bus company beforehand. However, there are too many bus routes in the Tai Po Centre. Even if the routes have been changed and the minibus routes do not enter the Cheong Wan Centre, traffic jams are still unavoidable.

Due to the large number of complaints received by government departments, the engineering department had to temporarily cancel the works, remove the road closures and resume traffic in the afternoon.

Liu also pointed out that, in fact, the road has been used by large vehicles for a long time, and it has been "very bad." He originally hoped that there would be no bad roads for a long time after the completion of the project.
