Two people, including a child, were killed and another child was injured in an explosion in an apartment northwest of the Russian capital, Moscow.
"A 14-year-old child died at the scene of the accident and another child was injured, while a man died of his injuries while being ambulanced to the hospital," Russia Today website quoted Ludmila Nevyodova, a spokeswoman for the Moscow Public Prosecution Office, as saying.
The spokeswoman did not explain the nature of the explosion, while the Interfax news agency quoted a source as saying that there was a "detonation explosion with an improvised explosive device."
For her part, a spokeswoman for the Investigative Committee in Moscow, Yulia Ivanova, said that a criminal file had been opened on charges of "causing death by negligence and illegal arms trafficking."
Ivanova stated that investigators believe that one of the children brought the explosive device to the apartment shortly before the explosion.
For its part, the Moscow Gas Company "Mosgaz" confirmed that the cause of the accident was not a natural gas leak.
