Fürstenfeldbruck district - Corona has been affecting all generations since spring 2020. Life has also fundamentally changed for the two target groups of the “Living for Help” project run by the Fürstenfeldbruck District Office. Due to the high health risk, senior citizens had to retreat to their own four walls for a long time, and students and trainees were severely restricted by the lack of opportunities to attend university or vocational school.

The corona situation has eased for some time and there is hope that the winter semester and the new training year will take place on site again. However, this shows the well-known problem that there is too little affordable housing for students and trainees in the Munich area. This is where "Wohnen für Hilfe" comes in and mediates intergenerational living partnerships in which senior citizens provide free living space and in return receive support in everyday life from students or trainees instead of rent. This support can be, for example, housework or gardening, shopping or accompanying you to the doctor. In general, one square meter of living space means one hour of assistance per month. Additional costs are paid in the form of a monthly flat rate. With “Wohnen für Hilfe” a win-win situation arises for both sides. Living together under one roof is an enrichment, especially after the long period of restricted contact. Loneliness is counteracted, seniors can stay longer in their own home and the younger ones benefit from the wealth of experience of the elderly.

In 2020 there were very few residential offers from senior citizens due to Corona. The demand from students and trainees was also significantly lower, as it was often not necessary to move due to the online events. "For the coming weeks, however, a significantly increased demand for rooms is expected again," suspect those responsible for the project in the district office. Those responsible would like senior citizens who have a vacant room to report to the agency in the district office. Thanks to the lower incidence and the possibility of a vaccination, nothing stands in the way of “Living for Help”. In addition, a protection concept was developed in which procedures are specified for all steps, from the first contact with interested parties to living together in a residential partnership,to make “living for help” safe for everyone involved.
