For an as yet unexplained cause, a car in the underground car park caught fire on Saturday afternoon in the Fraunhoferring.

A large number of the fire brigade were in action for hours.

At around 3:49 p.m., the alarm went off that a car was on fire in an underground car park in a residential building on Fraunhoferring. On site, the emergency services noticed that the entire underground car park was already smoky. The vehicle was in a large garage, which has almost 400 parking spaces, which is why additional personnel were alerted to the emergency site. They gained access to the underground car park via a total of three entrances. The heavy smoke in the garage and the long distances made it difficult to find the burning car and put it out. In the course of the mission, a second car also caught fire and was completely burned. The numerous entrances to the connected apartment buildings made the situation even more difficult. The houses had to be checked and searched. Sometimes there was smoke in the stairwells here too.

Three emergency services collapsed

At 17:27, “fire out” was finally reported.

After the fire fighting, the underground car park was smoked with several fans.

There was a lot of damage, which the fire brigade cannot quantify.

The underground car park is not accessible until further notice.

Two residents had to be treated by the ambulance service for smoke poisoning.

The high temperatures caused enormous physical strain for the emergency services, especially when working with heavy respiratory protection.

As a result, three emergency services collapsed and had to be treated at short notice.

The underground car park had to be propped up

Subsequently, the underground car park was supported in the area of the parking spaces for the two burned-out cars based on the recommendations of a structural engineer from THW. 122 forces from the fire brigades Aschheim, Dornach, Feldkirchen, Ismaning, Kirchheim, Unterföhring, the support group for local operations management and the district fire inspection were deployed. Forces from Haar, Heimstetten, Ismaning and Unterföhring provided area coverage in the Aschheim tool shed in order to be able to react quickly to possible parallel deployments. Specialist advisers from THW München-Land, the ABC-Zug München Land, the police and the rescue service were also on duty.
