Marktoberdorf - For the last time in his function as first chairman, Heinz Krämer recently opened the general meeting of the Marktoberdorf animal welfare association. For 42 years, Krämer had shown extraordinary voluntary commitment not only at the head of the animal welfare association, but also as a high-ranking member of organizations such as the German Animal Welfare Association and the Ethics Commission of the Government of Upper Bavaria.

In the future he wanted to take things a little easier, said Krämer. "At my age, it is time to step down a little and take more care of your health." Nevertheless, stressed Krämer, he was still ready to help in the association where he was needed. “I'm not getting lost to animal welfare,” he affirmed verbatim. In addition to an appreciation by the second mayor of Marktoberdorf, Wolfgang Hannig, the German Animal Welfare Association, Krämer, also thanked him for his commitment in two heartfelt video messages. In addition, Anneliese Krämer and Daniela Follner were also honored for their commitment.

In the annual report for 2019 and 2020, the difficulties for the animal shelter caused by Corona were at the center: Due to the ban on events, the association was denied many opportunities to collect donations. Another source of income was that the animal shelter's pension benefits were significantly reduced due to the pandemic-related travel ban. The decline in revenues had been offset by rising veterinary and personnel costs, as well as costs for necessary renovation work on a larger scale. At this point, special thanks were given to all donors who had supported the animal shelter with donations in cash and in kind even in the difficult Corona times.

An important item in the financing of the animal shelter is also the money from the city of Marktoberdorf, which supports the animal shelter annually with a lump sum for lost animals. Both the association's board of directors and mayor Hannig strongly advocated that the surrounding communities should also follow the good example of the city in this regard. Kurt Budschied (previously treasurer) was then elected as the first board member and Martha Ille as the second board member. The association members chose Edith Kuhn as the cashier and Monika Vietz as the secretary.

Board member Budschied declared himself in front of the assembly to the goal of continuing the association in the sense of Heinz Krämer in an orderly way.

His colleague Martha Ille said that they are aware that they have taken over the board in difficult times.

Due to Corona, there were no events and flea markets, including open days.

The visitor traffic has been reduced to a minimum, which not only made the placement of animals more cumbersome.

Many volunteers could no longer have supported the animal shelter either.

For animals in need

A new advisory board consisting of ten committed volunteers was then elected.

Cashier Kuhn praised the successful mix of old hands and newcomers.

On this occasion she literally said: “New brooms sweep well - but the old ones know the corners better.

It's also great that we have a lot of young people with us who have completely new ideas. "

A new addition is also urgently required for the staff of the animal shelter.

We are currently looking for a zoo keeper.

The position is to be filled from now on.

From October the association can even offer accommodation on site.

For the future, the outgoing board member Heinz Krämer hoped that all the surrounding communities would support the animal shelter with a flat rate for found animals and a lot of love for animals. "Because this is the only way we can continue to take care of all animals in need in the region."
