The government today approved the appointment of Danny Dayan as chairman of the Yad Vashem board.
The 65-year-old Dayan served as Israel's consul general in New York for four years. R. Yesha Council. Prior to that, he served as Chairman of the Board and CEO of Elad Software Systems Ltd., a company he founded and founded.
Dayan also volunteers as chairman of the public council of "Nefesh Benefesh" and until his departure for New York he was a member of the Yad Vashem Council.
Dayan holds a master's degree in finance (cum laude) from Tel Aviv University and a bachelor's degree in economics and computer science (cum laude) from Bar Ilan University.
Dayan commented on the appointment: "I thank Prime Minister Naftali Bennett, Education Minister Dr. Yifat Shasha-Bitton and the Israeli government for their trust.
Leading Yad Vashem is not a role;
It is a mission and I enter into it in fear and pity.
Yad Vashem is not just a commemorative enterprise.
On our shoulders lies the duty to continue to research and teach, to document and disseminate, to establish the truths and to reject the distortions, to remember and commemorate the horrors of the Holocaust of the Jewish people.
"As the years go by, the task becomes more difficult but also more vital, and I am determined to succeed in it together with the dedicated Yad Vashem employees."
Dayan added, "I thank his Avner for his many years of working for the memory of the Holocaust and turning Yad Vashem into the international center it is today, as well as Deputy Chairman Ronen Plot, who has voluntarily filled the chair since his retirement to this day."
Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Justice Gideon Saar said at the cabinet meeting: "The government chooses the most suitable and worthy person to head the world's largest Holocaust memorial center.
