A documentary film, an art and documentary exhibition, and honoring a number of personalities included in the celebration held by the Syrian Historical Society in Homs today, on the golden anniversary of its founding.

The celebration, which was organized in cooperation with the Directorate of Tourism, the Committee for the Protection of the Old City of Homs, the Department of Antiquities and the Directorate of Social Affairs and Labor, was shown at the beginning of a documentary film about the building of the archaeological headquarters of the Society, which dates back to 1873 AD, in addition to the most prominent cultural and heritage activities and stations during its course and the rehabilitation of its headquarters, which was vandalized During the years of the terrorist war on Syria.

An exhibition was also held in the lobby and hall of the association, which included a number of heritage photographs of historical buildings and sites in Homs and Syria in general, in addition to old stamps, coins, artistic paintings, aesthetic models and the association's publications for a number of artists.

The journalist and writer Muhammad Khair Al-Kilani presented a story from the Homsi heritage in an interesting literary style about choosing a bride. The story belongs to a French writer and journalist named “Alice Polo” who visited Homs in 1926 and was acquainted with the details of social life and customs in the city.

In turn, the association's president, Abdul Rahman Al-Bitar, presented some poems about Homs and the longing of its expatriate sons for its black stones, including the poet Nassib Arida.

The poet Dr. Abd al-Muti al-Dalati also recited a poem about Homs and the Assi, in which he transmitted Waajeh through his poetry to his most precious city to his heart, and flirted with its disobedience.

A number of founders and supporters were honored by distributing certificates of thanks to them, including Muhammad Yasser Bitar, Iyad al-Sibai, Labib al-Ikhwan and others who left a positive imprint in the progress of the work and activities of the association.

The Mimas Doha Club presented a traditional oriental musical link.

The plastic artist Ibrahim Salama says, "My participation in some of my paintings that I drew with clay and that represent heritage paintings of various historical eras is the least duty towards an association that continues its human and civilized path."

Engineer Amer al-Sibai, head of the Heritage Committee at the Engineers Syndicate in Homs, said, “The Historical Society has worked during the past decades to revive the memory of generations for our past and our rich heritage,” noting the close cooperation between the Committee and the Society, including presenting a collection of heritage photos to the Society out of the responsibility to protect our history and identity.

The association's celebration continues until tomorrow and includes the establishment of a number of cultural activities.
