The Director-General of the General Authority of the Student Credit Fund, Mazen Asaad, confirmed that about 13,000 students from all governorates benefited from personal and monthly student loans for the year 2021, with a total financial value of more than 3.5 billion Syrian pounds.

Asaad said in an interview with SANA that 15,307 students applied to the authority and its branches in the governorates to benefit from student loans during the period between 28-3 and 25-4-2021. All of their applications were accepted, and a number of them objected for their own reasons, indicating that the loans were distributed and granted to students. During the period between 4/19 and 7/19-2021, students are currently being received to pay the installments due to them, explaining that these loans are not subject to any interest, fees or deductions.

Asaad pointed out that a lot of facilities were provided to students in order to obtain loans and the cancellation of several previous conditions that required the presence of two guarantors, as one sponsor of the civil state employees on the job was satisfied, pointing out that there is a general satisfaction from all students with the procedures for obtaining loans Affordable and simple.

Asaad indicated that committees have been formed to conduct opinion polls, study the reality of students' needs, and develop a plan to supplement the fund's treasury with additional resources to ensure the increase of its financial portfolio, which helps in delivering its services to larger numbers of students during the coming period, in addition to the mechanisms and foundations upon which the fund's work must be based, which enables it to Raising its performance in reaching the most needy student segments, setting accurate indicators to measure performance and feedback by students, a clear vision of the target groups, and expanding the package of services that can be provided in the future in proportion to the students’ needs and the stressful living situation, and then achieving the goal for which the fund was established, which is to support a segment students during their academic achievement.

For his part, Yassin Abdel Hamid, head of the Damascus branch of the General Authority of the Student Credit Fund, explained that 800 male and female students benefited from the personal loan and about 460 male and female students benefited from the monthly loan, noting the high demand of students to the authority in order to benefit from loans that have a role in easing the financial burdens on students. and their families in light of the current conditions and support them to pursue their educational attainment.

The employee, Dalal Saleh, at the Fund's branch in Damascus, confirmed that all facilities are provided to students, guidance and answers to their inquiries regarding the required papers and where to obtain them, so that the process can be completed as quickly as possible.

In turn, the students Rahaf Al-Khatib from the Faculty of Medicine, Ahmed Al-Hussein from the Faculty of Medical Engineering, the student Jaafar from the Faculty of Informatics Engineering, and Rama Salah from the Faculty of Economics at Damascus University expressed their satisfaction and happiness with the loans they received and their simplified procedures, stressing that they will contribute to supporting the pursuit of their educational attainment without the need to resort to a market. Work to meet the material needs, study and transportation expenses, and thus devote himself to studying and taking exams on time.

The father of one of the female students benefiting from the personal loan, Ezzo Taha, a retired employee, said that these loans are an excellent step to help the students in their university career, pointing out that his daughter is studying in the Department of Sociology at Damascus University “first year” and has benefited from the personal loan to purchase her study supplies and lectures.

The monthly loan of 40,000 is granted as a salary to the student throughout the years of his studies, except for the summer months of each year, and it stops when the student fails in his year to complete when he graduates. The personal loan of 300,000 pounds is granted once and for students of all academic years.

The student pays the monthly loan after two years of formal graduation with the same amount of 40 thousand pounds per month without any interest. As for the 300 thousand loan, it begins to be repaid after a month of benefiting in installments for 30 months, i.e. at a rate of 10 thousand per month and without interest as well.
