Dachau / District - “Sein & Schein - in history, architecture and monument preservation” is the motto of this year's Open Monument Day, which will be celebrated on Sunday, September 12th in the district of Dachau in some places.

Can we believe our eyes On closer inspection, does the first impression live up to what it initially promised? What stories are hidden behind the monuments and their furnishings? This year the motto is: take a closer look. In some places there are special tours and offers: The Dachau Forum offers instead of the traditional bus tour with district home nurse Dr. Birgitta Unger-Richter an offer with individual arrival. Path of remembrance in Indersdorf

The “Path of Remembrance” opens in Markt Indersdorf. It starts at 11 a.m. on the memorial plaque on the Wasserturmweg (back of the St. Vinzenz kindergarten). From 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. there is expert information on the five information boards on the “Path of Remembrance”. The old water tower towers over the market town like an old fortress on the highest point of Indersdorf - a monument in an idyllic setting, which you cannot tell that it has withstood two world wars, wind and storms and much more in 110 years. Up there, like a guard over the place, the secular building ensured the water supply of the Indersdorf Monastery from 1911 to 1969 - even during the Second World War,when a National Socialist welfare institution was housed in the monastery and at least 35 toddlers of Eastern European forced laborers perished in a barrack on the monastery wall from insufficient nutrition and care. These youngest victims of National Socialism found their final resting place in the nearby district cemetery.

In the first three years after the war, the water tower was a popular meeting place for young Holocaust survivors, who found temporary refuge in the monastery.

Today the newly built “Path of Remembrance” leads from the former location of the infamous children's barracks to the historic district cemetery on Maroldstrasse, past the water tower, where you can enjoy the view and tranquility.
