The maintenance teams at Banias Thermal Station in Tartous controlled the fuel leakage from one of the tanks.
The Director General of the General Organization for Electricity Generation, Mahmoud Ramadan, confirmed in a statement to SANA that the maintenance teams at the station controlled the fuel leakage from one of the tanks, denying that the accident was caused by a sabotage act.
The head of the Electricity Workers Syndicate in the Tartous Workers Union, Daoud Darwish, had earlier confirmed the control of the fuel leak.
He explained that a "crack and wear" in one of the fuel tanks at the thermal station led to the leakage of quantities of fuel into the sea, pointing out that the tank was filled with 15,000 tons of fuel.
