Update from August 23, 10.30 a.m.:

The corona numbers are climbing steadily again, but North Rhine-Westphalia in particular is currently struggling with rapidly increasing values. In no other federal state in Germany is the seven-day incidence, which is still important for rules and measures, so high; in the meantime, NRW has once again recorded a three-digit value. The Robert Koch Institute gave it 103.3 on Monday morning. The previous day there were 99.2 new infections per 100,000 inhabitants within seven days, a week ago the value was 57.2.

The national average was 56.4 on Monday morning, which is significantly lower than in the most populous federal state.

According to the RKI, Hamburg has the second highest value among the federal states with an incidence of 71.6.

The last 1526 corona infections were added within one day.

In Leverkusen, the incidence is now even over 200: In the city on the Rhine, the value on Monday was 205.8 - the incidence was as high in no other district or no other urban district in the state.

In the meantime, all districts and independent cities in North Rhine-Westphalia have not only broken the threshold of 35, but also the threshold of 50.

Corona in Germany: No baby boom after the first Corona year

Update from August 23, 10 a.m.:

After the first Corona year, the number of births in Germany only increased slightly from January to May 2021. With around 315,000 babies, the number of newborn girls and boys rose by 1.4 percent compared to the previous year's newspaper, the Federal Statistical Office announced on Monday in Wiesbaden.

There was only a significant increase in March with around 3700 babies more than in the same month of the previous year. In the remaining months characterized by the onset of the corona pandemic, the development was inconspicuous.

The births in the first five months of this year were due to pregnancies that began during the first corona lockdown from late March to early May and in the summer months - when the restrictions on contacts were largely lifted.

A total of 154,000 girls and almost 162,000 boys were born alive during the period.

RKI reports increasing incidence: Hotspot with a value of over 200 - “Creative ideas” required for vaccinations

Original report from August 23, 2021:

Berlin - The seven-day incidence in Germany rose again on Monday (August 23).

According to the Robert Koch Institute (RKI), it was 56.4 nationwide - the previous day the value was 54.5, a week ago it was only 36.2.

In some cities and districts, the value is now over 100 again. With an incidence of 205.8, the Leverkusen district is currently the nationwide Corona hotspot, according to the RKI.

Corona in Germany: Incidence continues to rise - NRW hotspot with a value of over 200

The health authorities in Germany reported a total of 3668 new infections with the coronavirus * to the RKI within one day.

This is evident from the figures that reflect the status of the RKI dashboard at 4:30 a.m.

A week ago the value was still 2126 infections *.

In addition, the RKI reported a total of four new deaths.

The incidence has so far been the basis for many restrictions in the corona pandemic *, for example as part of the federal emergency brake that expired at the end of June.

In the future, other values such as hospital admissions are to be taken more into account.

Corona in Germany: From Monday, partially expanded 3G rules

From this Monday, partially expanded “3G” rules will apply in Germany: access to restaurants, hairdressers, clinics, swimming pools and other indoor areas is only available to those who have been vaccinated, who have recovered or who have tested negative when there is a high infection rate.

New rules will also apply in Bavaria from Monday.

"The pandemic is not over," warned Bavarian Health Minister Klaus Holetschek (CSU).

Despite the threat of restrictions for people without a corona vaccination * in everyday life, vaccination centers and medical practices in Germany are currently not seeing a general trend towards more vaccinations.

There should be new momentum in many places through special measures.
