The German army said this morning (Monday) that gunmen had exchanged fire with Western and Afghan forces at the gates of Kabul airport, to which thousands of Afghan and foreign civilians flocked seeking refuge from the extremist organization.
According to a German military statement, an Afghan security guard was killed and three others were injured.
The German army said American and German troops were also involved in the battle, without specifying whether the Afghan casualty was part of a Taliban force deployed at the port since last week.
There has been chaos at the airport since the Taliban captured the Afghan capital last Sunday, while US and foreign forces are trying to evacuate their civilians and Afghans at risk.
On Saturday, seven people were killed in riots outside the airport, and yesterday the Taliban beat the large crowd gathered outside the port gates.
A NATO source said yesterday that 20 people had been killed since last week at and near the airport. According to eyewitnesses, they were shot or trampled to death.
