Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov stressed that the initial dialogue between Moscow and Washington on strategic stability, which was held in Geneva last month, is encouraging, but Moscow realizes that the path to easing tensions with Washington is very difficult.
Lavrov said in an interview with the Hungarian newspaper (Magyar Nimzet), I would like to point out the encouraging moments that occurred during the first orientation meeting last July within the framework of the Russian-American dialogue on strategic stability..But joint work and cooperation in the field of cybersecurity should be established in order to establish a systematic cooperation that reflects common challenges.
Lavrov explained that Russian President Vladimir Putin clearly indicated that a positive result in all fields is possible, but only through negotiations and the development of a balance of interests that suits the Russian and American parties.
Lavrov noted that the path to de-escalation is very difficult, as there are more players and factors affecting the situation in the international security field today, stressing that Russia, as a permanent member of the UN Security Council, will continue to make its significant contribution to maintaining global stability by pursuing a foreign policy. Responsible, practical and predictable aims to neutralize threats and challenges to global security as well as to create conditions conducive to the peaceful development of all nations.
At the end of last month, a round of talks took place in Geneva from the Russian-American dialogue on “strategic stability”, and this meeting was the first since
Russian President Putin and US President Joe Biden agreed to start a comprehensive dialogue
about this subject.
In another context, Lavrov said that the allegations of European countries that the "North Stream 2" pipeline will increase the Europeans' dependence on Russian gas are unfounded, pointing out that the pipeline will enhance energy security in Europe for decades to come.
Russia's ambassador to Germany, Sergey Nechaev, announced earlier that there were only a few weeks left to the completion of the "North Stream 2" gas pipeline project.
