The importance of studying history and heritage and preserving them for generations, and the contents of the city of Homs included in the scientific symposium held by the Syrian Historical Society in Homs.

The symposium, which was held within the celebration of the fiftieth anniversary of the founding of the association, during which Eng. Ahmed Akash, Director of Homs Tourism, presented the efforts made by the Directorate and the Ministry of Tourism to advance the tourism sector through the reinvestment of all tourist facilities, given that Syria is the cradle of civilizations and possesses all the elements of tourism of all kinds, especially the governorate of Homs.

In turn, Obeida Al-Bitar, assistant curator of Homs Museum in the Homs Antiquities Department, pointed out a valuable collection of antiquities registered in the department, including sixty buildings inside the old city of Homs and six buildings outside, varying between religious and civil buildings. There are 93 archaeological mounds that were discovered with foreign archaeological missions. There are currently thirty archaeological buildings Work is underway to register them with the department, and work is being done to create introductory panels for the history of archaeological buildings.

For his part, Dr. Abdul Rahman Al-Bitar, President of the Syrian Historical Society in Homs, spoke about the historical and archaeological importance of the Society’s headquarters building as an archaeological and historical tourist landmark dating back to 1873 AD and archaeologically registered in the Ministry of Culture, the General Directorate of Antiquities and Museums since 2004.

It includes several buildings, and it is located outside the wall of the old city, and it has all the traditional architectural qualities, as it is built using the knot method, the tiled roof, and the black basalt stone. It is closed from the outside and open from the inside.

The celebration of the anniversary of the founding of the association also included the signing of a number of books, including by Dr. Hassan Kamhiyah, on the Homsi immigrant poetic heritage and some of the association’s publications, all of which center on the historical heritage of Homs, its people, its customs and rituals over time, and they were sold to some history and heritage enthusiasts.
