Russian presidential spokesman Dmitry Peskov stressed that the CSTO countries, including Russia, are not planning any intervention in Afghanistan.
The TASS news agency quoted Peskov as saying during a daily press briefing: "The meeting held by the organization today dealt with the course of developments, considering that this threatens the possibility of a new civil war in Afghanistan and carries with it additional risks and threats, and of course no one plans to interfere in these developments."
In response to a question about whether Russia has plans to mediate between the Taliban movement and its opposition forces in the state of Panjshir, north of Kabul, Peskov said: This issue is not being talked about.
Peskov pointed out that the leaders of the countries of the Collective Security Organization expressed their concern during their meeting about the terrorist organization "ISIS" maintaining strong positions in Afghanistan, as this represents a "dangerous trend that threatens the countries of the organization," noting that there is a general awareness of the need to coordinate positions on addressing the Afghan issue, including This includes the United Nations, the Security Council, and the Group of Twenty.
The CSTO includes six countries: Russia, Armenia, Belarus, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan and Kazakhstan.
