The taxi suspected of causing a terror car accident involving 2 deaths and 8 injuries in Tai Po was towed by a trailer yesterday (23) and sent to the Tai Lam Chung Vehicle Detention Center. The relevant personnel arrived at the scene to inspect the taxi today (24).

The case is now transferred to the first team of the New Territories North Regional Crime Squad for follow-up investigation.

It is reported that the Crime Squad is investigating whether the case was manslaughter, and it will also investigate the performance of the taxi's machinery and the speed of the vehicle at the time of the incident.

It is understood that the taxi was shipped from the factory in 2016, which is about 5 years old, and was inspected before the license was renewed in September last year.

The case is now handed over to the first team of the New Territories North Regional Crime Squad.

It is reported that the police will investigate the case for manslaughter, and will also understand the performance of the taxi involved and the speed of the vehicle at the time of the incident. The police will send the video of the incident to the government for further calculations to determine the speed of the vehicle.

Looking through past large traffic accidents, there have been cases investigated by the serious crime team, and the driver who caused the accident was eventually convicted of manslaughter and dangerous driving.

For example, in 2018, there were 19 deaths and 67 injuries caused by KMB overspeeding on Tai Po Highway. The driver of the KMB pleaded guilty to 19 manslaughter in the High Court and 19 counts of dangerous driving causing serious bodily harm to others, a total of 38 crimes. Sentenced to 14 years in prison and suspended for life.
