Today, the Arab Writers Union inaugurated its first rural library in the village of Al-Munaithra in the southern countryside of As-Suwayda, as part of its initiatives to establish libraries in remote rural areas.

During the opening of the library, the head of the Writers Union, Dr. Muhammad al-Hourani, told SANA reporter that the library is the first to be established by the union as part of its initiatives to establish libraries in remote rural areas, as the end of this month and the beginning of next month will witness the establishment of about seven libraries that are being prepared in various governorates.

Al-Hourani affirmed the Union’s readiness to accept any invitations from villages and rural areas to set up libraries in them and work to secure the necessary equipment, books, publications and periodicals in a way that contributes to promoting the dissemination of knowledge, thought and renaissance culture in those countrysides to fortify these areas and the country in general from the dangers that threaten it, especially that the war Terrorism is in large part cultural, and it is important in the reconstruction phase to work on rebuilding the human being.

For her part, the head of the Writers Union branch in Sweida, writer Wejdan Abu Mahmoud, pointed out that the idea of ​​establishing the library was launched during the organization of a literary-story evening in the village about two months ago, and it was welcomed, attended, and interacted greatly. They hurried to prepare them, and the Union branch presented about a thousand books as its core, and it will be periodically supplemented with publications and everything it needs, and in coordination with the activities of several villages, to establish similar libraries in them during the coming period.

In turn, the library supervisor, teacher Wahbi Al-Dabal, said that the library includes various topics in literature, culture, art, science, politics, history, and others, and is open to free lending to everyone, noting the contribution and initiative of the local community in the village to equip the library's furniture and donate many books, emphasizing the importance of reading and spreading culture.

On the sidelines of the opening of the library, the Eighty Arab Writers Union honored Assad Tawfiq Al-Gohari in his home in Salkhad, for establishing a personal library more than ten years ago, containing nearly 4,000 books that he made available to readers, and for his role and contribution to community service, dissemination and promotion of culture and encouraging people to read.

The opening was attended by official events from the governorate, a number of members of the Writers Union branch in Sweida, and cultural and civil figures in the village and its vicinity.
