The Chieminger band LaBrassBanda played in Aying on Friday evening.

There were guests of a special kind: a Johanniter vaccination team.

Aying - What amazed the Germans.

The Americans lured their vaccine-weary citizens to the syringe with donuts and hot dogs.

For us Germans, these incentives seemed strange.

Now one is faced with the same problem in this country: people do not want a vaccination.

Because Bavaria is Bavaria and the people here think differently, there is now a reward for a vaccination: free beer and brass music.

Unusual vaccination campaign in Aying: Free beer is given as a reward for syringes

Yes, exactly, two bottles of Ayinger Helles and music from LaBrassBanda.

The brass band led the beer garden in the Ayinger Bräustüberl back to the time before the pandemic on Friday evening.

The bass of the trombone thundered, ironed dirndl aprons bobbed to the beat, leaves of the chestnut shone in the light of the setting sun.

It smelled of pretzels and cigarette smoke: the coronavirus was forgotten for a few hours.

Bavaria, like Anno 2019.

So that beer garden visits and concerts are also possible in the second Corona late autumn, the Chieming musicians had invited unusual guests: five employees of the Johanniter aid organization including 150 vaccination doses.

Anyone who wanted could be vaccinated spontaneously.

Vaccination under deer antlers

The assistants had set up in the Bräustüberl, under a deer antler and next to an old schnapps barrel.

"Much nicer than in a practice," said doctor Kathrin Thiede about the unusual vaccination station.

Why here in Aying?

"The journeys to the vaccination centers are too difficult, especially for older people," said employee Jörg Nube.

Whether the weekly market in Oberhaching, the Phöenixbad in Ottobrunn or the vaccination drive-in in Taufkirchen: With mobile teams, the Johanniter are not only in the vaccination center in Oberhaching, but "in every corner of the district", says Nube.

A vaccination station in the tavern, with free beer and brass music, that is something special.

The Johanniter team agrees on this.

As part of their beer garden tour, LaBrassBanda had offered to invite mobile vaccination teams to the concerts.

Together with the hotel and restaurant association DEHOGA, they wrote to the districts concerned.

"We were very happy to take advantage of this opportunity as part of our special campaigns," said the Munich District Office.

The brewery boss Franz Inselkammer had added the free beer.

Meanwhile, his mother, Angela Inselkammer, is furious about the 2G rule.

The band members have long been vaccinated

The band had the idea for the beer garden tour last year.

"Live music and a good atmosphere are possible with the hosts' super hygiene concepts," emphasized band leader Stefan Dettl to Münchner Merkur.

“It's nice that you're here,” he said to the Johanniter staff.

They promptly offered the musician a vaccination.

"We are already vaccinated," said Dettl.

Protection is essential for his job.

The musicians want to support hosts on the "hopefully last meter of the pandemic".

“Save the hosts,” it says on the band's website.

It is questionable whether the Ayinger empire needs the rescue operation.

“We would have liked to have gone to smaller beer gardens,” Dettl said later.

But they couldn't have managed an event like the beer garden tour.

And he praised the Inselkammer beer garden as one of the most beautiful in Bavaria.

There is vaccination in there - take it easy!

3B concept: Bavaria, beer and the farmer's stand

The band played the audience in a celebratory mood, with their casual 3B concept: Bavaria, beer and a farmer's stand.

Most of the fans danced in their places, with a few exceptions.

“Festival atmosphere in the Bavarian beer garden,” said Dettl.

"I missed it."

He pointed to the Johannitern in the Bräustüberl.

“There is vaccination in there,” said the musician in his rustic way. “Take it easy.” He pointed out that one shouldn't drink “16 Maß” beforehand.

13 visitors were attracted to a vaccination in this way.

None of the vaccinated was drunk, said doctor Kathrin Thiede.

Those who want to be vaccinated should switch to cyclists before immunization - if need be.

“But you can't avoid beer in Bavaria,” said the doctor.

Not even with a vaccination.
