The recently founded association “Nagel und Faden” recently held the first workshop there.

It was about avoiding plastic in everyday life.

Geretsried - Six participants visited the first “sewing café” of the only a few months old association “Nagel und Faden” in Geretsried on Wednesday.

The motto of the evening: "Fabric instead of plastic".

Claudia Nau came specially from Munich to the old industrial hall at Bunsenweg 11 and is now sitting with other women at one of the sewing machines on the large tables.

"I'm an absolute beginner," she admits with a laugh and proudly shows her first attempts at sewing.

Small, colorful squares, carefully lined, as washable and reusable make-up removal pads in colorful patterns.

“Maybe I'll dare to grab a sack,” says the woman from Munich and looks for a nice piece of fabric out of the box.

"Here you can learn something new in such a relaxed way and get help".

"We are still looking for participants, organizers and old hands in the trade"

Annett Sporer from Königsdorf and Michaela Richter from Otterfing, on the other hand, are well versed in handling needles and machine threads. “I've been sewing for almost 30 years,” says Sporer, who is currently making a dishcloth from leftover bed linen while the person sitting next to her is putting the overlock machine into operation. This sewing machine, which is actually used in industry, can sew, overcast and cut in one operation. "Yes, it would be great if we could gradually offer professional equipment in the rooms," says Gabriele Rogge, the first chairwoman of the association. In the high, old industrial hall, which has a lost-places charm, open workshops are to be built, such as a wood, paper and ceramic workshop. "We are still looking for participants, organizers and old hands in the trade" who would like to teach others something ",says Nicole Ebner from Münsingen. She runs the sewing café, which will now take place on a regular basis. "We are concerned with the reuse of old materials for new products and thus avoiding plastic in everyday life."

The “Nagel und Faden” association, which was only founded in the spring, is only just getting started. “We have to see how we can manage the rental costs,” says Rogge. This is still a pop-up workshop, but it will soon be serious, then a rental agreement and payment of the ancillary costs will be due. But the idea drives the founders. "We want to bring life into the rooms here, a sociable togetherness, a give and take," says Rogge. An 80-year-old Geretsriederin was just there, a trained seamstress who would like to use this opportunity so as not to be at home alone. Meanwhile, the sewing machines purr softly to themselves, and you can hear the women at the cutting table talking shop with each other in amusement.

The association would like to invite interested parties on September 3rd.

The idea of a hall sponsorship is in the room in order to be able to raise the rent.

Anyone who wants to support the volunteers' initiative can take over individual square meters of the rent.
