Works on the metro and RER in Île-de-France: almost the end of the tunnel!

2021-08-23T04:08:06.770Z

Traffic resumed on certain sections under construction this summer. But in this pre-school week, several lines remain disrupted, noted

" I can not stand it anymore.

A trip that took me half an hour now lasts an hour ... I prefer to give up traveling this summer.

Like Julie, a resident of Val-de-Marne, many Ile-de-France residents have to deal with the countless summer projects on the rail network.

Between cut lines, unserved stations, less frequent trains and crowded substitute buses, a round trip in the region can feel like a long obstacle course.

SNCF and RATP take advantage of the holidays to suspend or reduce the service and carry out major operations on the infrastructure.

This summer, the program was busy, with large-scale work on RER A and B, as well as metro line 6.

And it's not finished yet.

In this pre-school week, it is better to prepare your trip well so as not to have unpleasant surprises.

If several stops are again served as of Monday, the operations of the summer are far from all completed.

In summary, you will need another week of effort, before a return to normal expected on all lines from August 30.

RER A: service has resumed between Auber and La Défense

Phew!

After two weeks of interruption, traffic resumed between Auber, La Défense and the Poissy branch (Yvelines and Val-d'Oise).

But beware, work will continue until August 29 inclusive to change the track and ballast of the busiest railway line in Europe.

Until Friday August 27, traffic is suspended from 9 p.m. between Auber, Nanterre-Université, Cergy and Poissy.

On the weekend of August 28 and 29, for the last time in the summer, the RER A will still be stationary 24 hours a day on this section.

The portion between Nanterre-Université and Saint-Germain-en-Laye is operating normally.

The return to normal for the entire line is scheduled for Monday, August 30.

Good news: after these seven consecutive summers of work, the RER A finally has new tracks on its entire line, which should be used for the next 40 years, until 2060.

RER B: buses to connect Massy and Les Baconnets

Things rarely go as planned on the RER B. From north to south, many areas are being worked on to improve the reliability of this line, which is used by nearly a million passengers per day in normal times. While traffic should have resumed on August 21 between Saint-Rémy-lès-Chevreuse and Les Baconnets, traffic remains suspended until Friday August 27 inclusive between Massy-Palaiseau and Les Baconnets. "A replacement bus system has been set up and serves Massy-Palaiseau, Massy-Verrières and Les Baconnets", specifies the RATP.

There will be 16 trains per hour morning and evening on the central section from this Monday. Insufficient frequency, according to the association Plus de trains, which deplores a "difficult summer". “It will be very complicated for users south of Baconnets with a compulsory transfer by substitute bus (crowded) between Massy Palaiseau and Les Baconnets. Or a passage by the RER C via Juvisy or Versailles Chantiers (which will offer more capacity than the buses). "

This prolonged interruption is linked to the terrible fatal accident that occurred on July 25 on the Chartres-Gallardon bridge, during which an SNCF engineer lost his life.

Backfilling work is necessary and requires the line to be interrupted.

This week, north of the RER B, from 11 p.m., until August 27, trains do not run between Aulnay-sous-Bois and Charles-de-Gaulle Airport, in both directions.

Substitute buses serve closed stations.

RER C: no trains between Massy and Pont-de-Rungis until September 3

Here too, the deadly subsidence of July 25 has had repercussions, with the extension of the interruption of traffic between Massy-Palaiseau and Pont-de-Rungis until Friday, September 3.

Replacement buses are set up between these stations.

Note also that no train runs between Paris Austerlitz and Juvisy stations from 10 p.m. on weekdays.

Buses provide service to closed stations.

Line 6: soon the resumption between Montparnasse and Trocadéro

The airline has been closed between Montparnasse and Trocadéro since June 26.

From Saturday August 28, seven stations will be served again, with viaducts and renovated tracks.

This is the best way to prepare for the arrival of new, more comfortable trainsets, the MP89, coming from line 4, from 2022.

“At first, only a few trains will be running alongside the old ones.

The MP73 will be replaced gradually until 2024, the year in which all of the line's 400,000 daily passengers will benefit from this new rolling stock, ”says RATP.
