It occurs for the first time since March 2020. The measure is in effect and it is because the AMBA ceased to be in a situation of epidemiological and health alarm.

Two weeks ago the

capacity in public transport

in Buenos Aires and the GBA

was made more flexible

.

Now it has also been confirmed that all users can travel, whether they are essential workers or not.

This was assured by sources from the national and Buenos Aires governments to this newspaper.

It is that the districts of the Metropolitan Area of Buenos Aires (AMBA) are

no longer in a situation of epidemiological and sanitary alarm

.

Now they present a

medium risk

, which allows in principle to extend the use of their public transport to anyone, as long as the

current capacity,

which was recently expanded

, is respected

.

According to Resolution 269/2021 of the Ministry of Transportation of the Nation, which came into effect on Tuesday 10, in the

buses

the number of passengers who can travel standing, in addition to those who occupy seats

,

was increased from 10 to 20.

In the metropolitan and regional trains of national jurisdiction, the same decree extended the quota for the times of greatest demand, during which up to four people per square meter can travel.

Before, it was just one for that same surface.

Subways can also be more loaded

for two weeks: up to 40 passengers are allowed standing, when before they were 15.

It is no longer necessary to show a permit as essential to use public transport in the Metropolitan Area of Buenos Aires.

Three weeks ago, the City Government had communicated the extension of the permit for the use of public transport but

only to construction workers

, who were added to the people who already had authorization.

With the recent expansion of use to any passenger, now the City is dedicated to

controlling that the capacity limit is met

both in the subway and in buses and trains when they circulate through Buenos Aires, indicated sources from the Ministry of Transportation and Public Works.

All these flexibilities are, of course, tied to the

evolution of the health situation.

If the curve of coronavirus cases were to rise again, "for example due to a growing community circulation of the Delta variant, the measure will be rolled back until the conditions for return are in health," the national government had warned in a statement.

This was not the only novelty these days in terms of transport: last Tuesday,

11 subway stations were available again.

They are Rio de Janeiro and Piedras (line A), Tronador and Echeverría (B), Moreno and San Juan (C), José Hernández (D), Belgrano and Catalinas (E), and Córdoba and Inclán (H).

In this way, lines C and H were fully operational.

This is how

80 out of a total of 90

subway stations are open, after the strong restrictions implemented by the pandemic.

City sources explained to this newspaper that it is difficult to reopen the rest of the stops for

logistical reasons.

One such issue is the need to organize staff around bubbles, which make shifts shorter.

The other, sick leave for staff or their waivers for integrating risk groups or having to isolate themselves due to being close contact.
