The glider pilots of the LSV Albatros Gammelsdorf / Erding have combined their passion with a good cause with a special charity campaign.
Gammelsdorf
- gliding and thus supporting others - this was the challenge faced by the youth group of the air sports association Albatros Gammelsdorf / Erding - and mastered it.
Recently, the Heinzelwinkl animal shelter in Eching (Landshut district) received a generous donation as part of the social project “A flight for paws”.
At the beginning of the campaign there was a call for tenders from Bayerische Sport Jugend Erding to make a joint contribution despite the exit restrictions. Many ideas were collected, and finally the young pilots agreed to support the animal shelter just a few kilometers from Moosburg - the project “A flight for paws” was launched. In the gliding season from May to October, one cent should be donated for each kilometer flown; on days with high temperatures, for example, experienced cross-country pilots cover up to 500 kilometers or more.
To present the project at the BSJ, a video was shot in which not only the concept, but also the flight operations, clearing and assembling the aircraft, scenes from the air and the youth group itself were presented. The video is available on YouTube.
It was particularly important to the young pilots to personally hand over the 450 euros resulting from the project together with some donations in kind.
However, due to the pandemic, the handover could only take place recently.
A tour of the animal shelter gave the youngsters an insight into the operational processes, but above all it revealed the enormous importance of the work that the animal welfare association in Landshut and the surrounding area does.
The young aviation enthusiasts agreed: The proceeds from their project “A flight for paws” arrived at exactly the right place at Heinzelwinkl.
