On the occasion of the rise of the last season of the successful zombie series, actor Norman Reedos tells what it is like to be part of a series for 11 seasons, why in his eyes it is not at all about zombies and young actors whose urine rises to their heads

Yesterday (Monday) the 11th and final season of the zombie series "The Walking Dead", which has been considered one of the most successful series in the world for the past decade, aired on Yes.

This season will be longer than usual, and will feature 24 episodes.

Filming for the season is not over yet, and the second part will probably go up next year.

At the end of last season, the group of zombie-dominated post-apocalyptic survivors faced new threats, and new friendships were formed.

Everyone who survived in the town of Alexandria struggled to revive the place and produce food for the residents.

"The Walking Dead" aired in 2010 on the AMC cable channel, and quickly broke ratings records and became the most-watched series in U.S. cable broadcasting history. It reached ratings peaks in its fifth season, with an average of more than 17 million viewers.

The success led to the creation of two daughter series: "The Horror of the Walking Dead" which aired in 2015 (and will soon have its seventh season), and "The Walking Dead: The World Beyond" which aired last year, and will soon return for a second and final season.

In addition there are two sequels that are already in development, one of them starring the intrepid hunter Daryl Dixon, played by actor Norman Ridos.

"It's like reality"

Reedos, 52, has been starring in "The Walking Dead" since her first season.

After the departure of Andrew Lincoln (Rick), he is actually the main protagonist, and is also considered the most beloved character among the fans.

The role in the zombie drama is his big break, having starred in movies like "The Saints from Boston," "Blade 2" and "American Gangster," and even modeled for big brands.

In recent years he has been a regular star in the gossip columns, thanks to a relationship with German actress Diane Kruger.

The two have a daughter in common, and Ridus also has an older son from his relationship with the Danish supermodel from the 90s, Helena Christensen.

In an interview to promote last season, Reidus said: "I definitely have a responsibility on my shoulders, as the torchbearer from the first day of the series, but I'm not alone. And if we had done it differently - it could have been a corny product. That's why I have a commitment to remember the journey from the first moment and be there for the newcomers, whether by giving advice or by returning them to the ground, so that their urine does not rise to their heads.

"I can not stand people who overlap and do not do their homework. Those who come to the set without taking into account where they came from and what is at stake. They are already coming to a successful series and taking it for granted, but some of us built the series from the ground up. Humility. He who only perfumes glory - does not endure. "

Do you think the series is responsible for the popularity of the zombie genre in film and television?

"I remember being invited to audition, before the series came up, and when I read the script I got, I didn't focus on the zombies at all. For me it was a story about a man waking up from a coma and looking for his family, and there are zombies around. For me they are a marginal part, probably in the advanced seasons. That the writers made a wise decision when they went ahead and were not satisfied with battles against zombies - the series is much more than that. Friend who, only instead of bikinis and dice in our stomachs we have zombies.

"Viewers who persevered in watching the series discovered the true story, the dynamics between strangers who do not necessarily like each other but are forced to trust each other. You get to watch the evolution of the characters, and that is the element that makes the series interesting for me even after more than a decade.

"In the 'Walking Dead' promotion campaigns we came to fan conferences all over the world. We were in Spain at a huge fan conference, and I felt like I was performing on the Woodstock stage. In Japan the police threw dozens of girls on the floor because they were furious to see us. On social media. "

The goal: to reach Israel

Alongside the series, Reedos also stars this five seasons in an adventurous documentary series, in which he embarks on a motorcycle ride with guests like actor Josh Brolin and comedian Dave Shappel.

"The inspiration for the series is chef Anthony Bourdain and his culinary journey program," says Reedos of the American chef, who ended his life three years ago.

"I admired him. I recently watched a new documentary about his life, and I had a lot of memories of him."

Are there plans to visit Israel?

"I really want to come to Israel, and film one of the episodes of my series there. When the producers ask me where else I want to go on trips - Israel is always on the list."
