The death of the 3-year-old occurred hours after Transport Minister Merav Michaeli decided to postpone the obligation to install the system for forgetting children in vehicles until June 2022. This, after the systems were widely criticized by the public, and to explore alternative ways to allow their existence.
"The manner in which the installation was determined requires further thinking and substantive corrections so that it can fulfill its purpose and save lives," the minister wrote.
"Girls and boys who are forgotten in the car is a painful and terrible phenomenon, and I call on all parents - focus on your children, and avoid the various distractions, and especially those caused by the use of cell phones. The Ministry of Transportation is first and foremost saving lives as a top goal," Michaeli stressed.
