Damascus-SANA

In conjunction with the increase in the number of Corona injuries and suspected cases referred to hospitals, the General Authority of Damascus Hospital (Al-Mujtahid) raised its readiness in terms of expanding the isolation divisions, increasing the number of health staff working in it, and reducing admissions for cold operations.

The director of the hospital, Dr. Ahmed Abbas, explained in a statement to SANA the readiness of the hospital and the mobilization of most of its cadres to receive all cases of corona and to work on preparing and expanding new people in order to accommodate the largest number of patients, pointing to the reduction of cold operations that bear delay and the increase in the number of cadres working in isolation departments and divisions.

And Dr. Abbas indicated that the increase in Corona injuries during the last period is significant, as the cases referred to the hospital increased from zero to 44 injuries, on average, in the isolation departments, explaining that the pandemic comes in the form of successive attacks and waves that appear in the transitional seasons more, while immunity against the virus is formed through infection or taking the vaccine.

Dr. Abbas stressed that the vaccine reduces the severity of infection, the risk of death and the need for hospitalization, but it does not prevent infection with the virus, pointing out the importance of following the full methods of protection and personal prevention, which is the basis for limiting the spread of the virus in addition to receiving the vaccine.

Head of the Department of Isolation Care and Corona Patients, Dr. Samer Omar Yahyaoui, indicated that the number of patients in care is 20 patients, stressing that the complications of the virus in advanced cases that are seen in care are clots and severe hypoxia.

Yahyaoui attributed the high number of Corona injuries to people's failure to adhere to the recommendations of distancing and preventive measures.

The resident of the isolation department, Dr. Lynn Al-Hamwi, indicated that a large percentage of the patients complain of mild symptoms and are referred to home isolation, with close supervision from the parents, noting that the most common general symptoms are fever and cough.

Al-Hamwi stated that if the oxygenation is less than 90 to 92 percent, the patient is admitted to the hospital and a protocol approved by the Ministry of Health is applied, and if the oxygenation is less than that or suffers from a lack of awareness, he is referred to care.
