Israel: Army flies attacks on Hamas targets in Gaza

2021-08-24T08:20:38.412Z

Air strikes in Gaza followed fire balloons and machine gun fire: after the conflict in May, there was another confrontation between Hamas and Israel's armed forces.

Israel's air force has attacked positions of the Islamist Palestinian organization Hamas in the Gaza Strip.

The army described this as a reaction to so-called fire balloons that were sent to Israel from the Palestinian Territory on the Mediterranean Sea on Monday, as well as to machine gun fire by Hamas.

The Luftwaffe attacked a place for the manufacture of weapons, entrances to two "terror tunnels" and an underground rocket launch site.

Militant Palestinians repeatedly fly balloons with explosives and incendiary devices from the Gaza Strip to Israel.

This often causes fires in southern Israel.

After confrontations at the Gaza border fence on Saturday, the Israeli air force had already attacked several Hamas positions in the Gaza Strip.

According to official reports, two Palestinians aged 13 and 14 and an Israeli border police officer are in critical condition following the latest clashes.

According to Hamas, Egypt then closed the Rafah border crossing between the Gaza Strip and Sinai.

From Egyptian security circles it was said that this was done because of maintenance work.

The Israeli radio, however, reported that it was a response to the clashes.

In May, Israel and Palestinian militants engaged in armed conflict for 11 days.

According to the Ministry of Health, 255 people died in the Gaza Strip.

According to official information, there were 13 deaths in Israel.

The EU, Israel and the USA classify Hamas as a terrorist organization.

15-year-old killed in raid in the West Bank

In the West Bank, also occupied by Israel, people were killed in a raid by the Israeli military in the occupied West Bank, according to the Palestinian ambulance service.

The 15-year-old was shot in the head, said the Ministry of Health in Ramallah.

According to the Israeli army, soldiers in a refugee camp in Nablus had arrested a suspect for terrorist activities.

The soldiers came under fire from surrounding roofs, it said.

The troops would have shot back.

Among other things, Palestinians threw blocks of stone from buildings at the troops.

Soldiers saw a suspect trying to throw an object at a soldier below him, it said.

A soldier then fired and a hit was registered.

The army announced that there were no injuries on the Israeli side.
