Kaufbeuren / Freising - As part of the newly created Bavarian Landscape Architecture Prize 2020, a flagship project from Freising was awarded in the “Sustainable Urban Development” category.

The prize was awarded by the Association of German Landscape Architects, State Association of Bavaria, in cooperation with the Bavarian Chamber of Architects.

It goes to the Kaufbeurer city planning office “Die Stadtentwickler” and the landscape planning office “WGF Landschaft” in Nuremberg.

Together they developed a detailed study for an urban and landscape planning framework.

The so-called green slopes fulfill important inner-city functions on the slope edge of the city of Freising, which is exposed to enormous settlement pressure.

Freising city architect Barbara Schelle is pleased that "with the detailed examination of the 'green slopes', an effective basis has been created to ensure the urban quality of the green slope edges in the long term."

Both teams have drawn up a plan with guiding principles and principles with the aim of maintaining and further developing the distinctive green slopes of the city of Freising.

The jury was particularly impressed that the actual planning process subsequently took place together with the city council, city administration and the interested population.

“We advise cities and municipalities in southern Germany on sustainable urban development concepts,” says urban developer Annegret Michler.

“We basically try to involve all citizens in communication and development processes.

Only in this way can urban development measures be borne by everyone and living space can be carefully further developed.

In Freising that worked out very well and that has now been honored, ”she says happily.

"The urban developer"

The planning office was founded in 2015 by Annegret Michler.

With a team of seven employees, the architect and former master builder of Landsberg am Lech works on various subject areas of urban development, especially in the Bavarian region.

Her clients include cities such as Bad Tölz, Füssen, Schwandorf and Weilheim as well as municipalities and communities such as Bernbeuren, Kühbach and Pöcking.

She pays particular attention to the interdisciplinary approach to inner-city development.
