The cow and sheep breeding projects in Douma in the Damascus countryside have revived again after they were destroyed during the war years, and with their return, the dairy and cheese production factories that were always distinguished for their production started.

We returned to the restoration of our livestock of sheep, cows, Shami goats and camels, many of which we lost as a result of terrorism, and the heads gradually began to increase, especially with the increase in cultivated lands. This was confirmed by some livestock breeders in the city of Duma to Camera SANA, who visited the place.

Breeder Muhammad Rihana pointed out that raising livestock is one of the most important projects for the people of Douma who, upon their return to their city, began reviving, expanding and developing it, as it is always considered an important center for the production of meat, dairy and cheese.

We started raising in small numbers, and then they multiplied and their number increased. This is what the breeder Hashem Al-Hablani explained, explaining that he works with his entire family in raising livestock, and most of his production is marketed to dairy and cheese producers inside Douma, who in turn markets these products to the markets of Damascus and abroad.

After improving the reality of raising cows and sheep in Douma and the availability of the necessary quantities of milk, many dairy and cheese production plants were launched and their owners returned to work, this was explained by the industrialist Ziad Labouda, who indicated that he started production about 45 days ago and needs nearly a ton of milk to be marketed daily. From the farms of Douma and Eastern Ghouta, it manufactures all milk products such as yogurt, labneh, cheese, Arabic ghee and others, and distributes them in Damascus and abroad, stressing that it works at full capacity by relying on pure natural milk free of any purlin that reduces its nutritional value.

The head of the multi-purpose agricultural association in Douma, Yassin Saleh, stated that the number of livestock began to increase in Douma after the return of security and safety to it. During this period, it reached 6,500 heads of cows, noting that the number of cows in Douma reached 22 thousand head before the crisis, while the number of sheep reached about 13 A thousand heads, while the number of Shami goats is currently 4,300 heads, and 500 heads of camels.

Saleh indicated that the association provides rationed fodder and diesel for breeders according to the capabilities and according to what is available in the Feed Establishment, pointing out that the dairy and cheese factories in Douma were sufficient before the crisis in Damascus and its suburbs, but production declined during the current period due to the decline in the number of livestock.
