Traffic accidents in Sha Tin District have been on the rise in recent years. According to the statistics of the Transport Department, the number of accidents has risen from 1,284 in 2018 to 1,403 in 2020, an increase of nearly 10%. In the first seven months of this year, 886 cases have been recorded, which is more than half of the total number of last year. Among them, Dayongqiao Road, where accidents are frequent, has 20 accidents this year, resulting in 1 death and 55 injuries, especially the serious car accident with 1 death and 7 injuries that occurred on June 13. The horror picture is vivid.

The reporter visited the accident site earlier and found that the Transport Department had recently installed an "ice-cream cone" that differentiated the lanes and had been crashed. In just two hours, more than a dozen vehicles had to be in front of the light because they got into the wrong lane. The situation is quite thrilling when the line is cut in an emergency; moreover, the bus has been unable to cut the line due to the rush of traffic, blocking the subsequent vehicles and building a long queue.

The chairman of the Planning and Development Section of the Hong Kong Institute of Surveyors, Lam Ka-fai, pointed out that the construction of new roads "must have as many claws as an octopus."
Lin Jiahui suggested that the government should refer to London in the United Kingdom, Tokyo in Japan, and Beijing and Shanghai to connect the main trunks around Shatian to form a ring highway.
