The district association of the Bavarian Red Cross will be relocating its ambulance station to its area on Kaiser-Wilhelm-Strasse in downtown Starnberg in the near future.

The current rescue station in the industrial park is in such poor condition that it can no longer be used.

Starnberg

- The Bavarian Red Cross (BRK) has an emergency: The ambulance station on Petersbrunner Straße in Starnberg can no longer be used. BRK district manager Jan Lang mainly cites traffic problems due to construction sites, but admits that, according to the assessment of BRK experts for hygiene and occupational safety, neither the BRK as a tenant nor a repair by the landlord can restore the existing building to a sufficient condition may be. That is why the rescue station is moving back to Kaiser-Wilhelm-Strasse.

“Two factors force us to act quickly,” explains Lang in a press release: “On the one hand, the traffic situation on Münchner Strasse towards the city is becoming more and more prone to congestion due to construction sites. If Gautinger Strasse is now temporarily closed, our ambulance service will not be able to avoid serious delays in emergencies in the direction of the city center without relocating. Nobody can want that. ”Gautinger Strasse will be closed for nine weeks from next week. "On the other hand, the heavy rain of the past few weeks has finished the aging building of the Starnberg ambulance station." Lang reports of "considerable mold formation in several places" and of cracks in the wall. It was not foreseeable that the guard on Petersbrunner Strasse could not be rescued, he explained.

District association does not want to create a permanent solution in the city center

The new solution is the old one: until 2010 the guard was on the BRK premises at Kaiser-Wilhelm-Straße 4, and that is exactly where it is moving again.

In the past few days there has already been preparatory work, including for containers.

Lang explained that they are checking with the city and district office "to what extent a quick emergency solution for the rescue service in several stages using office containers and carports can be turned into a viable interim solution for several years".

Angelika Kammerl, incumbent mayor, stated that the BRK had to submit a plan and a building application, she did not expect any major problems.

"You have to help," she said when asked.

The district office then wants to look at the process.

The rescuers should move in September if possible. Vehicles and crews from the BRK disaster control, paramedics, water rescue and transport service BRK Mobil are currently housed on around 1400 square meters on Kaiser-Wilhelm-Strasse. It shouldn't be a permanent solution. Lang: "At the moment we have no other choice."

It is not the only spatial problem of the BRK, because the current seat of the district office - opposite the guard on Petersbrunner Straße - is supposed to give way to the "moosaik" according to Lang. “We have been trying to rearrange our properties in Starnberg for many years, because we have grown strongly and are bursting at the seams. But so far, despite years of intensive negotiations with many people who have land in Starnberg and the surrounding area, we have unfortunately not been able to find a solution that on the one hand offers us the necessary space and on the other hand remains affordable for a non-profit, charitable aid and welfare organization. Many people are very sensitive to the costs of a home emergency call, a meal on wheels, an outpatient care service or a place in a kindergarten. That is why we cannot simply raise these prices significantly in order to finance a higher rent for our administration. Many citizens in the Starnberg district who depend on our services simply have no money for this. ”He hopes for a pragmatic solution. The administration could therefore also be accommodated temporarily on Kaiser-Wilhelm-Straße.

The future of a rescue center is uncertain

The BRK was also interested in an area in Pöcking that should be developed by the owners.

It had long been known that the guard in Starnberg was in poor condition.

It is not foreseeable whether the rescue service will be able to move into a fire brigade's planned rescue center on Münchner Strasse - it will take years.

Lang knows well that a guard on Kaiser-Wilhelm-Strasse does not go down well with everyone.

When "the ambulance of the Bavarian Red Cross switch on the blue light and siren in the coming days, that means next to the 'Please let us through so we can help' maybe also a little 'Please understand us rescuers and give us a home.'"
