Due to the government's restriction on meat exports,

Uruguay once again surpassed Argentina in volume of meat exported

in July after 3 years, according to Fundación Mediterránea.

The neighboring country sent 37,939 tons abroad last month, according to data from the National Meat Institute (INAC) of that country, which generated foreign exchange for 218 million dollars.

While Argentina reached 35,611 tons, according to the numbers of the Indec, for a value of 191 million dollars.

This had not happened since April 2018, when Uruguay had exported 25,722 tons (139.7 million dollars) against the 25,144 tons (138.3 million dollars) that Argentina had sold abroad.

From that moment on, the volume of Argentine meat exports began to rise to record numbers.

Thus, to compare, in July 2020, Argentina had shipped 53,747 tons of meat versus the 22,535 tons that Uruguay had sold, according to the same sources.

However, since the clampdown on meat exports began on May 20, imposed by the Alberto Fernández government, volumes marketed abroad fell considerably in the following months.

In June, for example, it reached 35,502 tons and in July, 35,611 tons.

Meat exports are

restricted to 50% of the volume

recorded last year, except for the Hilton, 481 and United States quotas.

But at the end of this month

the term expires and the Executive will have to define whether to extend the measure

, except for the 7 popular courts that the prohibition governs until December 31.

10 days ago the release of a new quota of 3,500 tons of Kosher meat to Israel was known after complaints from that country, a promise that the government had made at the request of the meat chain.

And that today was made official in the Official Gazette, distributing 218.75 tons each among 16 establishments.

They had also committed to freeing the export of the cow to China, the main Argentine market, but for the moment there were no news.

Also from the Mediterranean Foundation they published a report that remarks that

meat prices in Argentina are the cheapest in the region

.

The biggest difference was registered with Chile, where this food was 26.6% more expensive in July.

Thus, out of 13 cuts, the kilo in the Argentine territory stood at US $ 8.2 compared to US $ 11.2 in the trans-Andean country.

With Uruguay, the difference was 6.8% in 15 cuts analyzed, since the average value of a kilo was US $ 7.7 from the other side of the Río de La Plata during July, against US $ 7.2 for Argentina.

In the comparison with Brazil, which was translated into pesos and the online prices of 8 cuts from 4 supermarket chains were taken as a reference, it turned out to be 4% cheaper- The price was $ 995 in two Argentine chains compared to $ 1,039 of the Brazilian.

Strong rejection of the stocks

Recently, the four entities of the liaison table (CRA, Coninagro, Agrarian Federation and Rural Society) together with different actors in the sector directly affected by the export stocks released a harsh statement entitled

"We lost all"

after 4 months of having imposed the export restrictions and asked the government to lift the measure as soon as possible.

In this sense, the communiqué details that the producers lost before this measure "because the price of the farm fell and the uncertainty increased." The consignees also lost "because the commercial volume was lower". He also added that the industrialists and exporters lost "because the lower volume of slaughter increases the operating cost and damages, once again, the image of Argentine meat in the markets before repeated breaches with buyers ". He also remarked that workers lost "due to less industrial activity" and consumers "because meat consumption was affected by inflation."
