Iraqi Foreign Minister Fouad Hussein affirmed today that there is a clear agreement between Baghdad and Washington on the withdrawal of all American combat units from Iraq, stressing his country's readiness to fight terrorism by all means and methods.
Hussein, who is currently visiting Russia, said in an interview with Sputnik agency in response to a question about “whether Baghdad is ready for the withdrawal of the US army,” saying, “With regard to the issue of terrorism, Iraq is completely ready to fight,” noting that “the country’s security services have sufficient information about terrorists and experience. wide in their fight.
"We are witnessing the activation of sleeper cells, but in general this activity does not pose a threat to Iraqi society," he added.
On the possibility of maintaining a limited contingent of the American army in Iraq, Hussein said, "There is a clear agreement on the withdrawal of American combat units by the end of this year."
The Iraqi parliament voted last year by an absolute majority on a resolution obligating the Iraqi government to end foreign presence in the country after the American crimes on Iraqi soil.
On the other hand, the Iraqi Foreign Minister expressed his country's desire to expand relations with Russia to include other aspects. He said in this regard, "We need to build good relations in various fields. We will discuss and reach the signing of several memoranda of understanding between the two sides."
