Newly promoted swimmer Xu Jiajun made his first appearance in the Paralympic Olympics. He has made his mark in international competitions in recent years. He set his best time in the men's S14 100-meter backstroke at the 2018 Asian Para Games in Indonesia with 1:02.44 and won the gold medal; and later In the International Sports Federation for the Intellectually Handicapped, they won gold in the same event and broke the record of the General Assembly at the same time.

The Tokyo 2020 Paralympic Games will be held from August 24 to September 5, 2021. Approximately 4,400 athletes from more than 160 countries and regions will participate in 22 sports.
This year’s Hong Kong delegation consisted of 64 people, of which 24 athletes participated in eight sports, including archery, track and field, boccia, equestrianism, swimming, table tennis, wheelchair fencing, and the newly added badminton events this year. Among them, half of the athletes participated in the Paralympic Games for the first time; another 40 coaches, sports science and medical personnel, support personnel, regional Paralympic Games representatives and staff accompanied the team.
