Just yesterday, Andrew Cuomo had completed his last day of work as governor of the state of New York - and presented himself again as a victim of a political campaign when he left.

Now the politician who resigned after allegations of sexual harassment has to return his Emmy award.

The jury of the renowned TV award announced on Tuesday (local time) that it was withdrawing Cuomo's Emmy, which Cuomo had received last year for his daily corona briefings.

Cuomo's name as well as "any indication that he has received this award" would be removed from all materials of the Emmy Jury with immediate effect.

The decision to withdraw Cuomo from the Emmy comes against the background of a report by the New York attorney general on the allegations of several women against the 63-year-old and his decision to step down as governor.

This was stated by the jury in a message to the AFP news agency.

Cuomo had announced his resignation two weeks ago, thus anticipating impending impeachment proceedings.

Previously, the New York attorney general Letitia James published a report in which the governor is accused of having sexually molested eleven women.

Cuomo has denied the allegations.

Monday was his last day in office.

His successor is Kathy Hochul.

Cuomo, who came from a political dynasty, was elected governor in 2010 and has since become one of the stars of the Democrats.

During the peak of the pandemic in spring 2020, the politician, who was praised for his crisis management, was even traded as a possible presidential candidate for his party.

Cuomo believes he has been treated "unfairly"

He was later accused of hiding the extent of deaths in nursing homes.

In addition, more and more former employees accused him of sexual harassment.

According to the prosecutor's report, Cuomo was said to have touched, kissed and hugged eleven women undesirably.

He is also said to have made inappropriate comments.

Cuomo addressed New Yorkers on his last day as governor in a 15-minute video message previously recorded.

"I'm a fighter," he said.

That was why his instinct was to fight.

In his opinion, he was treated "unfairly" and "unjustly".

But he decided not to fight because prolonging the situation would only cripple the government.
