United States President Joe Biden and Prime Minister Naftali Bennett would like to use at their meeting tomorrow (Thursday) to "reboot" the US-Israel relationship and broadcast outward message of change and a new beginning, so said Israeli and American officials involved in preparing the visit.

Even Biden Bennett also needs the success of the meeting for internal political reasons - Biden against the background of the criticism he is receiving around the crisis in Afghanistan and Bennett to establish his authority within the government and strengthen his position in public opinion in Israel. Bennett and Biden's goal is to embark on a new path and build a good personal relationship between them.

The day before the meeting with Biden, Bennett spends time meeting with all the top US officials, Secretary of State Anthony Blink, Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin and National Security Adviser Jake Sullivan.

When he arrives for a meeting at the White House tomorrow (18:30 Israel time), Biden will already know exactly what he is expected to tell him and vice versa.

This will be Bennett's first visit ever to the White House since entering politics about nine years ago. Bennett arrives at the meeting with little experience in meetings with leaders from around the world, especially when it comes to the US president. He admitted he was excited.

The prime minister and his advisers have stressed in recent days that they want to base relations with the Biden administration on the same principle in light of which they run the multi-opinioned government in Israel. Apart from the fear of all partners of Netanyahu's return to power, what holds the government in Israel together is the good will of its members towards each other. For now at least.

Bennett believes that one of the main problems in Netanyahu's relations with Obama and Biden has been the constant preoccupation with confrontations and political handshakes between the Prime Minister's Office and the White House.

A senior Israeli official said that Bennett believes that the many disputes that exist between Israel and the United States can be managed better if the approach is less comparative.

The prime minister made sure it was his main public message before taking off for the United States. "Joe Biden is a true friend of Israel," Bennett said. "There is a new government in Israel and there is a new government in the United States ".

White House officials heard the things and loved them very much.

The meeting between Bennett and Baiden is expected to focus on the Iranian issue.

A senior Israeli official said the prime minister's first message to the US president would be that, contrary to Netanyahu's approach, he wants to work with the United States. Bennett believes that such an alternative plan should include reference to both the nuclear and Iranian activities in the region.

In meetings with Biden and Defense Secretary Austin, Bennett is expected to seek more US military assistance - both to replenish the Iron Dome interceptor stock but also to rebuild military capabilities that Israel needs to deal with Iran and its affiliates in Syria and Lebanon.

On the Palestinian issue, there is a major dispute between Biden and Bennett. Biden believes in a two-state solution while Bennett opposes it and supports annexation. But the current circumstances in Israel and the Palestinian Authority make this controversy less relevant. Both the president and the prime minister believe that there is no maturity for political negotiations with the Palestinians - mainly because of the internal situation in the PA. On the other hand, they both want to work to improve the economic situation in the West Bank and Gaza Strip. To the US on this issue.

Abraham's agreements signed at the White House a year ago, led by Biden's predecessor, Donald Trump, will also be a major topic of discussion. The Biden administration has said publicly that it wants to try and promote further normalization agreements between Israel and Arab countries. Israeli officials say Bennett will propose to Biden to use the change that has taken place in the region following the agreements and new alliances as part of its strategy to contain Iran.

One of the main topics in the conversation is China's involvement in Israel.

The Biden administration, which places China as the main threat to American national security.

Israeli officials say Bennett will present to Baidan and other senior government officials the new Israeli policy that defines relations with China as an issue of national security and is more considerate of American concerns than it was during Netanyahu's time.

Other issues that are expected to come up in the talks are the climate crisis and the corona epidemic.

Bennett and his people understand that ultimately these issues are at a higher priority in Biden's priorities than the Middle East.
