The staff of the General Company for Electricity Generation in Banias, in cooperation with workers from the Baniyas Refinery Company and the Syrian Oil Transport Company, continues to transfer the leaked fuel from one of the company’s tanks, which was cracked yesterday, which led to the leakage of quantities of fuel into the sea.

General Manager of Baniyas Electricity Generation Company, Issa Sawaf, told SANA reporter that according to the design of the tanks in general, there is an earthen and concrete protection wall designed to contain the entire amount leaked from the tank, but there are “recarats” dedicated to rain water that have been closed directly to prevent any additional leakage.

He said: “The emergency solution was to close the reflux and communicate with the Banias Refinery Company and the Syrian Oil Transport Company to support us in pumping the leaked fuel and transferring it to tankers as soon as possible. operating at the station in order to maintain our level and not lose additional quantities of fuel.”

Sawaf pointed out that the deportation of tankers outside the company has now been stopped because it is an emergency solution, and work is being done to pump the remaining quantities into the company’s tanks. It is expected that work will continue for about 15 days, after which the maintenance workshops will be able to inspect the damaged tank and treat the crack in it.

Operation Director of Banias Electricity Generating Company, Eng. Ramez Khneisah explained that the fuel leaking from the tank is currently being collected in a collection basin called the fuel trap, where it is captured before reaching the sea and pumped back to the tanks and returned to the tanks, pointing out that there are small quantities of fuel near the opposite shore of the company. It is picked by specialized workshops whenever it gathers.

Yesterday evening, one of the tanks in the Banias Electricity Generating Company was cracked, which led to the leakage of quantities of fuel into the sea, which were controlled by the company's workers and cadres.
