Königsdorf / Benediktbeuern

- The recent capricious weather with floods, hail and forest fires as a result make us painfully aware: Climate change is here. In Königsdorf, itself affected by heavy rain events, as well as in Benediktbeuern and near Altenau in the Ammertal, so-called KlimaTopes were created as part of the Bavarian-Austrian Interreg project “KlimaAlps - Making Climate Change Visible”. Visitors can explore the effects of climate change "on their doorstep" on interactive themed trails.

KlimaAlps has set itself the goal of “encouraging action for climate protection”, says Dr. Cornelia Baumann from the Oberland energy transition, she heads the project. It is based on three components: a network of science, education providers and regional decision-makers, training to become a climate educator and, of course, the KlimaTope. Habitats from the high mountains down to the cities are illuminated in it. "The different starting points in our KlimaTopen appeal to very different target groups - there is something for everyone," says Baumann. The aim is “to make as many people as possible aware of climate change and its consequences here in Germany. We would be happy if the visitors had the time to discover the importance of the natural and cultural area - and to find out what influence climate change could have on it. "

Three of the seven KlimaTopes were developed in the Bavarian Oberland - in Altenau, for example, with a focus on agriculture.

On a varied circular route, the connections between grassland management and the climate are discussed at several stations.

The centerpiece is the Phenological Garden: Here you can see how climate change is changing the seasonal rhythms of nature. The Energiewende Oberland developed this KlimaTop in collaboration with the herb teacher Elfie Courtenay, the Ammergau Alps Nature Park and the Garmisch-Partenkirchen district. For his district administrator Anton Speer "it is impressive how the KlimaTop illustrates the relationships between soil, cultivation and climate change in our region and how important the preservation of our traditional grassland management is for us and our climate".

The KlimaTop Königsdorf is intended to represent rivers and lakes in the face of climate change. A digital rally can be started on the grounds of the Hochland youth settlement. With the help of the “Action Bound” app, groups and pupils from the fifth grade onwards embark on an exciting adventure, during which they have to find their missing friend Lotta from the environmental work group. During the rally, participants will explore how climate change affects rivers and lakes.

In the KlimaTop Benediktbeuern, the focus is on the moors.

An action bound is also used there.

For visitors and groups from the fifth grade onwards, it is important to free a scientist from the hands of kidnappers in an interactive criminal case and to publish his research on climate change and moors.

For this purpose, visitors are out and about in the Loisach-Kochelsee moors, where various model projects for renaturation, nature conservation and environmental education are being implemented.

The exciting game was designed by the Center for Environment and Culture (ZUK).

District Administrator Josef Niedermaier was enthusiastic: "Here, climate change and what it means in concrete terms for us in the Tölzer Land is conveyed in a playful and vivid way."

In September, more KlimaTopes will be added in North Tyrol and Upper Austria.

The subject areas of high mountains (Berliner Hut, Zillertal Alps Nature Park), mountain forests (Nordkette, Karwendel Nature Park), moors (Reither Moor, Natopia Association) and people and settlements (Linz, Upper Austria Climate Alliance) are processed there.

In the summer of 2022 - one year late due to corona - the first cycle of the climate pedagogue training is to start.
