Tartous-Sana
Five craftsmen from Tartous governorate presented, during an exhibition in the town of Qumsiyeh, a bouquet of their traditional handicrafts, which varied between carving and burning on wood, and the ancient traditional professions made of straw, bamboo and pottery.
The exhibition, which was held by the Directorate of Culture in the governorate and the Arab Cultural Center in the town of Qumsiyeh for one day, was talked about by Mayman Jahjah, Director of the Cultural Center in Qumsiyeh. She said in a statement to SANA that the exhibition aims to revive heritage through various activities and events, including this exhibition, which is held annually under the title “Our Heritage is Our Identity.” In it, the participants present some of their heritage works that they were keen to continue working on and teach them to the new generations to remain present with all the ancient historical heritage they represent.
A number of participants in the exhibition stressed the importance of reviving the Syrian heritage in its various forms through various activities to remain an embodiment of the memory of the nation. I work for this profession, noting that it has become very popular in recent times, especially cooking with utensils made of it, which are very popular.
In turn, Alaa Zahra presented a set of wood carving works inspired by nature, considering this profession, like other handicrafts, with an authentic history and a distinguished presence.
Hasan Istanbouli displayed wooden sculptural works, while Dareen Istanbouli participated in wood burning paintings, in addition to Halima Hassan's participation in straw dishes, which are among the important and distinguished heritage professions.
