Starnberg

- The former building yard of the city of Starnberg on Seilerweg has been in ruins for years, and it will soon be gone.

The district is currently demolishing the existing buildings there in order to make space for the new construction of the technical college (FOS).

Their construction, however, will take some time.

The district bought the more than 4000 square meter area from the city after much back and forth a few years ago. The location for the FOS was not approved by everyone, especially since the property is quite small for a school building. Since then, the district has wanted to demolish the old buildings immediately, but that turned out to be more difficult than expected - also because of house martins that had nested there. The district had to apply for a permit from the government of Upper Bavaria in order to begin resettlement. That took some time, but it worked.

Work has been going on since July, and part of it has already been demolished. First the buildings were cleared and gutted, vegetation was cleared. As asbestos had also been found in the buildings, it had to be removed and properly disposed of. The administration building and the multi-purpose hall were almost demolished, said district spokeswoman Barbara Beck about the stand. This work was progressing faster than planned. The local sewage treatment plant and vehicle hall as well as the garages are to be dismantled in September. The district expects to be ready in November. The then free space will be used as an interim parking space for the FOS, which is currently housed in two buildings in the industrial park, and the district office.

The start of the new building can be expected in a few years, as district treasurer Stefan Pilgram had only explained to the district committees in the spring. The development plan should be legally amended by spring 2022, which must be voted on first place in the architectural competition. At the same time, the first specialist planning should be done, for example for statics, electrical systems, heating and ventilation. The draft plans should be available at the beginning of 2023, a further two years are set for the final planning and the building permit - then it will be at the beginning of 2025. The actual construction time is estimated at two and a half years, the move-in would therefore be conceivable at the beginning of the school year 2027/2028. There is no precise statement about the costs.

It is now clear what the FOS will look like. The competition was won by the Schürmann Dettinger Architekten GmbH (Munich) working group with Studio Vulkan Landschaftsarchitektur (Munich), whose design envisages a three-storey plinth including a sports hall and public school uses (cafeteria, auditorium) and three storeys above it as a learning cluster and a roof garden on top. A lake terrace is also planned, and a neighborhood garden on the roof of the sports hall - with deck chairs, seating groups and a partial public. The facade should also be greened. Small spaces are planned in front of the building, the entrance to the underground car park is close to Leutstettener Straße. The whole building is built to save energy and is to be supplied by geothermal energy and solar systems, decentrally ventilated and overall a low-tech building, i.e. without complex controls and the like.

The FOS Starnberg was founded in 2015, lastly had 14 classes with around 370 students and now has three disciplines: social affairs, economics and administration as well as international economics.
