Group leader Brinkhaus sees the situation as relaxed.

Is that really she?

Current surveys contain explosives.

Munich - Polls around the Union are currently causing unrest in the party.

On the one hand, there were the poor results of surveys in recent weeks and the fall to second place in the electorate's favor - and on the other hand, the sometimes desolate approval ratings for Chancellor candidate Armin Laschet.

According to some surveys, he is the least popular candidate for the Chancellery.

This is toxic for the Union because CSU boss Markus Söder - who actually would have liked to become a candidate for chancellor himself - is one of the most popular politicians in the country.

Bundestag election: majority demand swap of chancellors in the Union - criticism of Söder tips

This is one of the reasons why the calls for a change of course are getting louder and louder in the Union. According to a recent poll, a whopping 70 percent of the supporters of the CDU and CSU are calling for the candidate for chancellor to be changed around a month before the election. Instead of Laschet, Söder should be sent into the race. The Bavarian Prime Minister seems - whether wanted or not - to become more and more of a problem for the election campaign. The ongoing taunts from the CSU, where they are anything but satisfied with the current situation, do the rest.

There are therefore already voices within the CDU calling for Söder to be more moderate.

For example, CDU economic expert Friedrich Merz demands "that Markus Söder should stop now and that he also wants to win the election together with us and that he fights." With the appearance of Söder, Merz is only "partially satisfied".

Merz is convinced that the CSU politician “could have done without some remarks”.

Other CDU politicians have already criticized Söder and CSU for their statements in the election campaign.

With Ralph Brinkhaus, head of the CDU / CSU parliamentary group, a prominent Union politician is now protecting the CSU.

Bundestag election: parliamentary group leader Brinkhaus defends Söder - "That is relatively normal"

Looking at the taunts from Munich, Brinkhaus said on RTL / ntv “Frühstart” on Wednesday: “I can still remember Franz-Josef Strauss and that was a lot more.” He added: “It is relatively normal for Bayern show independence, as the CSU they also have to make their own election campaign. "

Instead of such sidelights, one would have to deal with the election campaign anyway.

“We know what to do,” said the CDU politician.

“Election campaigns are not just about voting, but also about struggle.

That is why we will also fight for the next four weeks ”- together with the CDU and CSU;

and Armin Laschet as candidate for chancellor.
