Because in that 120-page work, the applicant shows what his concept for the Alpine World Ski Championships in 2027 looks like. The end of this week is the deadline for submission to the association, which is based in Oberhofen am Thunersee, Switzerland. The local World Cup committee did not want to wait until the end, and sent the documents off on Wednesday.
Peter Fischer has to laugh when he looks back on this procedure over the past few years alone. "Now all you have to do is press a button and send the email off." He used to go to the mailbox. “We even went there ourselves once to make sure because we were a little late.” As agreed, Fischer remains the head of the application as the World Cup representative of SC Garmisch. He and his team worked on the bidbook for three months. “120 pages are a lot of wood, a lot of work.” But everyone is satisfied: The municipality and the ski association too. You apply in threes. "We can proudly claim to have outstanding expertise," says Mayor Elisabeth Koch (CSU).
The Gudiberg is in, the Kandahar Arena out - these are the big changes to the unsuccessful 2025 application. This makes Garmisch-Partenkirchen the only candidate who can completely dispense with the construction of new sports facilities.
