Mindelheim - The Mindelheim section of the German Alpine Club has two reasons to celebrate this summer!

This coming weekend, the association is celebrating the 100th anniversary of the Mindelheimer Hütte with a star march.

At the hut, the next reason to raise a drink awaits with the completed replacement of the staff wing.

After the Mindelheim Section was founded, opening up the Alps was one of the great leitmotifs of that time. From 1907 the copper sculptor Franz Xaver Abt was chairman of the Mindelheim section and he was looking for a suitable area of work with a base and became aware of the completely undeveloped region south of Oberstdorf. However, this was a royal house's hunting ground and inaccessible.

A coincidence changed the situation when, in 1911, Franz Xaver Abt received an order from the municipality of Oberstdorf to erect a bronze statue as a memorial to Prince Regent Luitpold. He got access to the royal hunting authority through the territory owner and was able to present his wish to open up the Schafalpkopfgruppe to the general public. After tough negotiations, he succeeded in 1914 in acquiring the current Mindelheimer Hütte property. The following years were all about the new building and the first small hut was inaugurated on August 29, 1920. Numerous construction measures, extensions and conversions, new constructions, such as the replacement construction of the mountain station of the material ropeway as staff accommodation have followed to this day.

The Mindelheim section is proud to own a modern and highly frequented hut in the Allgäu Alps, which has been hosted by the hut owner Jochen Krupinski and his team since 1979 and is therefore already in its 42nd year.

Last year it was planned to celebrate the anniversary properly before the corona pandemic intervened.

So the anniversary could only be celebrated in small groups and a plaque was put up next to the entrance of the hut.

For the coming weekend, on the occasion of the anniversary, it is planned to carry out a one-time star hike to the Mindelheimer Hütte from five directions from Saturday, August 28th to Sunday, August 29th, to catch up on the feast day at the hut and to celebrate a hearty hut evening.

There is the possibility of an easy hike through the beautiful Gemsteltal from the south, a mountain tour with rope insurance through the Wildental and over the Kempter Scharte from the west, an approach from the east through the Rappenalptal to the “Schwarzen Hütte” and the “Muliweg” or choose the approach via the Mindelheimer Klettersteig from the Fiderepasshütte.

In addition, a mountain bike group “Bike and Hike” comes to the festival at the Mindelheimer Hütte.

On Wednesday, September 8th, at 7.30 p.m., there will be a convivial evening in the forum, during which the club's writer Fritz Wölfle and other members will report on events and anecdotes from the long history of the hut.

Members and interested parties are invited, admission is free.
