The Animal Health Department in the Daraa Agriculture Directorate has launched a free campaign to vaccinate sheep and goats against smallpox, targeting 350 thousand heads.
The head of the department, Dr. Atef Al-Asmy, told SANA reporter that the aim of the campaign is to protect livestock from diseases and ensure their continuity in production, indicating that the necessary vaccines for the campaign are available in the Directorate of Agriculture, extension units and veterinary centers in the governorate, and that the situation of livestock is stable and herds do not suffer from infectious or communicable diseases.
According to the statistics of the Directorate of Agriculture, the number of sheep and goats in Daraa is 805,000, producing about 22,000 tons of milk and 7,000 tons of meat.
