As-Suwayda - Sana
The As-Suwayda Agriculture Directorate initially estimated the governorate’s production of olive fruits for the current season at about 6000 tons, mostly for rain-fed crops.
The director of Suwayda Agriculture, Engineer Ayham Hamed, told SANA reporter that the estimated production for this season is less than last season due to the lack of rain, its poor distribution, and the inappropriate weather conditions that accompanied the flowering stage.
Hamed called on farmers to provide supportive irrigation for olive trees during the current month as well as the next in the largest possible amount if the possibility is available, in order to reduce the fruit fall, increase its size and the rate of oil accumulation in it, facilitate the oil separation at the time of the afternoon, thus obtaining a better oil ratio and inciting the trees to the autumn growth wave with the aim of Increase pregnancy parcels for the next year.
Hamed pointed out that the total area planted with olive trees in the governorate is 9,945 hectares, comprising one million 673,000 trees, of which 1.412 million trees are fruitful.
As-Suwayda Governorate produced about 9,047 tons of olive fruits last season.
